In 2009, Stu Crane had an Oriental rug in his home that had been in his wife’s extended family for generations. Unfortunately, Stu’s cat had an accident on the rug, and it needed cleaning. Since the dry cleaner Stu was a partner at didn’t clean area rugs, they sent it to the local rug cleaner everyone used at the time. The rug was cleaned three times and the horrible smell was still there. The local rug cleaner told Stu there was nothing more they could do and advised Stu to “leave the rug outside for a few weeks and if that doesn’t work, throw it out”. Needless to say, that method didn’t work either, and unfortunately, Stu threw the rug out along with the family history.
In 2010, Stu Crane and his business partner Brad Tingle decided it was time to take area rug cleaning to a new level. Their model was simple: bring in the best equipment with the best people and offer the best product with the best customer service. They attended trade shows and educated themselves on the newest and latest technology for rug cleaning. Next, they promoted a long-time employee, Blake Balog to run the department. Blake was handpicked for many reasons, but most importantly it was his desire to learn and his keen sense of attention to detail.
Fast forward to 2017, and Brad & Stu sold their interest in their dry cleaning business and formed Greenspring Rug Care, a brand new state-of-the-art 6000-square-foot facility at 2205 Greenspring Drive in Timonium, Maryland. Of course, Blake Balog, our Hand-Woven Rug Specialist, is managing the new plant.
